Here is an actual remnant of the impacting asteroid that caused the dinosaur extinction 65 million years ago.   During that fateful event, a large asteroid slammed into the Yucatan peninsula area of what is now the Gulf of Mexico.  The catastrophic effects killed off the dinosaurs and many other species of life.  The actual impactor itself is long gone, disintegrated by millions of years of exposure to Earth's elements.  But, these tiny micro-tektites are still here - millions of years later.  These tektites were formed when the Earth's crust at the impact site liquified and combined with elements of the giant impacting meteorite.  These tiny glass-like objects where hurled a great distance where they settled in the sediments of time, buried and forgotten.  A respected researcher of K-T boundary material collected these micro-tektites during an expedition to Beloc Haiti.  At that site in Haiti, exposed KT boundary sediment layers yielded a clay-like sample which contained these tiny micro-tektites.  These specimens were then painstakingly seperated out from the clay deposits and placed onto a microscope slide for research use.  I carefully removed some of these specimens to construct these displays.  Each display has a genuine Chicxulub micro-tektite from the dinosaur extinction event.

The micro-tektite specimen is encased in a clear acrylic gemjar which is placed inside a handsome display box that has a black pebblegrain finish and a glass viewing window.  The specimen can be removed from the case and carefully handled or examined.  The color prehistoric artwork inside the display has a print of a Tyrannosaurus Rex and dinosaurs overlooking a brilliant impact explosion in the distance.   The print is laser printed for highest quality.  The Chicxulub tektite can be seen in the cutout in the viewing window.  This display would make the ideal gift for someone who has everything.  This would also make a fine outreach or educational prop and it would look great on display in the office or observatory.

These microtektites are extremely rare and I only have a very limited quantity of them - so these kits are being sold on a limited edition basis.  Once this run of kits is sold out, there probably won't be any more.

Refer to the photo.  The black centimeter cube is shown for scale and is not included.
