New! - very nice N48 rare earth Neodymium magnets. N48 is a very strong industrial grade and much stronger than some similar magnets sold on eBay and elsewhere. There are only 2 stronger grades than N48 - N50 and N52. N50 and N52 magnets are harder to find, more expensive, and somewhat dangerous in larger sizes. These N48 magnets are a great compromise of strength and value. These are many times stronger than the best ceramic magnets and will attract the tiniest amounts of metal - great for testing those meteorites which are very low in metal content. In addition, these magnets are 1cm square cubes! This is the same size as the meteorite scale cubes that are seen in all of my specimen photos. So, this magnet serves double duty - testing for metal and showing scale. It's a very handy thing to have and every meteorite collector should have one in their goodie box. Great for demonstrations as well.
NOTE - you are purchasing the shiny unmarked magnet cube in the photo, NOT the black scale cube with markings. I do not have any of the black photographic scale cubes available.
Update - as of November 2011, the supply of rare earth minerals from China is declining and the market prices are increasing. My cost for these magnets just went up again and now cost me triple what they did two years ago. I have now had to raise my price to cover this increased cost.
