Campo del Cielo is an iron meteorite (coarse octahedrite) from the Chaco province of Argentina.  It was first discovered in 1576.

This Campo del Cielo iron meteorite weighs a substantial 2492 grams (2.49 kg).  This particular Campo is 100% stable and rust-free.  It has a nice black patina and has a striking shape that resembles a skull as seen in profile.  This Campo was acquired from Pat Mulvany who is an expert in meteorite preservation and conservation.  Pat has developed a proprietary process which purges all hidden moisture and rust-causing contaminants from an unstable specimen, resulting in a truly stable meteorite that will not oxidize under normal conditions.  (more on this process below)  This meteorite will display on it's top, bottom, or edge.  A meteorite this large and heavy would make an ideal outreach or teaching prop.  It is also a museum-class display specimen that is a conversation piece and heirloom.  Note, Galactic Stone and Ironworks is the official distributor for Pat Mulvany Collection meteorites.

More on Pat Mulvany's stabilization process - Pat specializes in conserving iron meteorites of all types.  His process does not involve coating or sealing.  His specimens have no odor and do not feel oily.  Pat has stabilized this Campo meteorite and it has a numbered specimen label sticker on it that matches the serial number on the specimen card.  Unlike many other Campos on the market which contain trapped/hidden moisture, Pat's meteorites are 100% stable and they will last forever with proper care.  Pat also offers his stabilization services to the public - if you have a sick iron meteorite that is rusting away, you can contact me and I will put you in touch with him.  (see the "Meteoritical Services" section on my website)
