When the Canyon Diablo iron meteorite slammed into the Arizona desert, it carved out the world famous crater that tourists see today. The meteorite was mostly vaporized and the remnants were scattered around the surrounding desert. Inside the crater, the native bedrock was crushed and hurled out onto the rim. This small piece of Coconino limestone comes from the rim area of the crater and represents the material thrown out of the crater by the impact.
