This is a piece of Colombia Copal - it is similar to amber, but is not fully fossilized. (Some refer to copal as "young amber" because with time it will become true amber). Despite being "young", copal can be quite old, and Colombian copal can be upwards to several million years old. Colombian copal is not commonly seen and it is held in high regard for it's beautiful color and ability to take a high polish. Most Colombian copal is found in El Cerrejon Norte.
This particular piece of copal has gorgeous transparency, color and a polished window. It also bears a strong resemblance to Libyan Desert Glass, which makes it an analog or "LDG-wrong". Placed side by side with a piece of LDG, a meteorite collector would have a difficult time telling which is which.
This piece weighs 17 grams and is a gorgeous example of copal. Refer to the photos. The black centimeter cube is shown for scale and is not included.
