Dalgety Downs meteorite fragments were first recovered from remote western Australia in 1941. Pieces were eventually analyzed and classified as a shocked L4 chondrite. Most of the recovered fragments came from an original 400+ kilogram mass, which makes it one of the largest known falls of an L4 chondrite. The matrix shows chondrules and metal flecks. This is a classic, early Australian meteorite that is well represented in most museum collections.
