Decaturville Crater - Impact Breccia, Polished Slice, 68g

Decaturville is an ancient meteorite impact crater located in Camden county Missouri.  The impact event took place approx. 200-300 million years ago and the remnant crater is 6km wide.  The violent impact pulverized the native bedrock and created the impact breccias that are found there today.

Rock Type:  Monomict Breccia

Composition:  Probably in situ brecciated Lower Ordovician Jefferson City Dolomite.

Locality:  Ring Graben of Decaturville Impact Structure, Camden County, Missouri U.S.A.

Approx. Dimensions:  2-7/16” long x 1-1/2” wide x 3/8” thick

Approx. Weight:  68 grams

Condition:  5 cut faces are flat with no saw marks, polished to 2000 grit, no clear-coating.  Back surface is a rough break.

Refer to the photos.  You get the specimen shown, which is a polished slice that weighs 68 grams.
