This is a specimen of Dhofar 1654 meteorite. Pieces of this meteorite were first recovered from the Zufar region of Oman in 2011. It was analyzed at an institution in Germany and classified as a L5 chondrite that is moderately shocked and weathered at S2 and W2/3. It has a characteristic dark brown matrix with sparse chondrules, sparse metal fleck and veins of oxidation replacement minerals. Although approx. 50 kilograms of pieces were recovered from the strewnfield, this meteorite is rarely seen on the market now because most of it was absorbed into collections years ago. This is a good example of a chondrite from the Omani desert.
The specimen being offered here is an uncut and "as-found" fragment. It weighs 25 grams.
