Henbury Lot, Classic Sculpted Australian Irons, 49g

Henbury is a classic Australian iron meteorite that is associated with a cluster of ancient impact craters in the remote Australian countryside. Henbury irons were first officially recovered in 1931, but were likely known far earlier by natives to the area before Western settlers arived. These meteorites are well known for their distinctive orange-red patina from a combination of weathering and the orange clayish soil in the area. They often have sculpted unusual shapes and a few regmaglypts. It is classified as a type IIIAB, medium octahedrite that shows nice Widmanstatten pattern when etched.

The lot being offered here has five (5) individuals that weigh a total of 49 grams. The smallest weighs 5g and the largest weighs 16 grams. The largest one has been lightly cleaned and the others have their natural desert patina.
