When a volcano erupts violently, large blobs of molten magma are hurled great distances across the nearby landscape.  Aerodynamics and cooling result in a football-shaped mass that is covered in a rough rind of hardened magma.   These masses are called "lava bombs", "olivine bombs", or "mantle xenoliths" by rockhounds and geologists.  When these bombs are cut open, they reveal a beautiful interior packed with emerald-green olivine crystals.   These crystals are also known as peridot and they are the same crystals that are seen inside pallasite meteorites.  

The specimen available here weighs 248 grams, and is a large broken individual (almost baseball sized) that is loaded with brilliant green olivine crystals.
