On April 14, 2010, a brilliant night-time fireball illuminated the sky over rural Wisconsin farm country. The fireball was captured on video by numerous sources and multiple
detonation events occurred as the fireball rained meteorites down on
the countryside. This new witnessed fall meteorite is also a "hammer
fall" because one of the meteorites struck the roof of a barn and
another landed on a garden hose.
The hunt for these meteorites is ongoing, but the total known weight so
far is less than 10 kilograms. This meteorite has been classified as a brecciated L5 chondrite.
I received a small stone to slice and several small crumbs fell off during cutting. Some of these fragments have black fusion crust and some show metal fleck. Your purchase will include one small fragment similar in size and quality to the one shown in the photo. You may find a larger Wisconsin specimen on the market, but you won't find a cheaper one!
Refer to the photo. The black centimeter cube is shown for scale and
is not included. Your purchase will include a labelled gemjar for
safe storage and provenance information.
