Congo copal has a long history and it was sold in great quantities during the early part of the 20th century.  It was used for jewelry, medicine, and making varnish.  It is a very hard and very dark resin.  The trees that produce Congo copal are leguminous and the age can vary, although most of it is quite young and not fossilized.  This material is increasingly hard to get because Congo is engulfed in conflict.
