Wagon Mound was originally found in Mora County, New Mexico, in 1932.  The finder did not publicize the meteorite and kept it in the family for more than 60 years.  Eventually, the meteorite was recognized and it was sampled for classification.  The results showed that the family rock was an L6 chondrite (moderately shocked S2) and some of this stone was cut and sold onto the collector market starting in 1999. This is a Cretaceous-period Baculite fossil that was gathered at an unknown North American locality.  It measures approx. 6 inches by 2 inches.  It is heavy and very hard, and there is some color play (iridescent) on parts of it.  When you hold it near a light and rotate it, you can really see the iridescent colors.  It is difficult to capture in a photo, but you can see some hints of it.
