This large piece of fossilized coral measures approx. three inches by two inches and weighs 33 grams.  It is a fine example of Solenastrea Hyades coral from the late Pliocene period.  This specimen was found on a south-central Florida beach after a powerful storm churned up the bottom and littered the beach with finds.
